News from Mojomala for February 2024: In-store event with Katherine Paterson & Sofía Campoamor; Mojomala is a Record Store Day shop; new “cool stuff” vendors; and hours & location.
In-store event Saturday, March 2
Singer-songwriters Katherine Paterson and Sofía Campoamor are taking time out of their upcoming East Coast tour to visit Mojomala on Saturday, March 2, at 2pm. Come on by to meet them and enjoy an intimate in-store performance. And be sure to also check them out the night before at the Edgwood Community Farm in the heart of DC.
We hope to have copies of Katherine’s new album Wake in the store. Here’s a video for the single “Priscilla” as a sneak peak:
We're a Record Store Day shop
It’s official! Mojomala is participating in this year’s Record Store Day (https://recordstoreday.com/Home) on Saturday, April 20. As we approach the date, we’ll share the RSD product lists, and let you know of any special events or tie-ins we conjure up. We’re not exactly sure what we’ll do yet; we’re just excited to be a part of this internationally recognized day of vinyl awesomeness. And we love that, along with Joe’s Record Paradise and the Record Exchange, Silver Spring now has three great shops for you to find your RSD goodies.
New cool stuff spotlight …
While we are primarily a books & records shop, we love stocking products from cool creators or independent businesses. If you are an artist or maker and have a product you think would be a good fit for Mojomala, let us know! And to give you an idea of what we like, here are a few new vendors we’re excited about:
Artiphany: founded in 2006 in Palo Alto, California by John Littleboy. These are products with whimsical (and beautiful) animal illustrations. We were first sold on their Pack of Dogs and Kitten Club playing cards, but we then fell in love with their greeting cards, totes and adorable dog bandanas!
3 Sisters Design Co.: formed in 1999 by three sisters (really) in Bradenton, Florida. Satisfying our somewhat snarkier side, we picked up a set of their “Big House” greeting cards and cocktail napkins featuring vintage mug shots and hilarious captions. My fav so far is Carole.
