Jeffrey Everett and the art of posters – May 2024

Jeffrey Everett and the art of posters – May 2024

In-store event with graphic designer and artist Jeffrey Everett, summer construction woes and new "cool stuff."

Few concert poster artists can post numbers like Jeffrey Everett: 400+ concert posters produced over a 20-year career. Now that award-winning body of work is being collected for the first time in "Let It Bleed," an exquisitely produced 450-page hardcover that carefully reproduces 350+ of Everett’s posters alongside his observations on his craft, career, and collaborations with artists such as Foo Fighters, Letters to Cleo, The Gaslight Anthem, and many, many more.

We’re thrilled to have Jeffrey visit Mojomala this FRIDAY, MAY 17 at 7pm, to talk about the art of concert poster design, and to sign copies of "Let It Bleed." Jeffrey will also have on hand prints and a few other items for sale. “Let It Bleed” is published by Silver Spring’s Picture This Press.

Summer construction disruptions

One the one hand, we’re glad to see the Purple Line project is finally making headway. But the upcoming construction projects related to it will mean it’s going to be less convenient to get to Mojomala this summer.

Beginning June 1, both the Silver Spring metro station and the Spring Street bridge will close temporarily. The metro station work is slated to run until the end of August, while the bridge will be closed until January 2025 (current odds on FanDuel that either are completed on time are not good).

As we’re already a bit of a hidden gem in downtown Silver Spring, what does this mean for your friendly neighborhood books & record shop? It’s a little unclear, though we’re hopeful that alternate routes to us from Georgia Ave., Colesville Rd. and Cameron St. are sufficient to minimize the disruption. Just the same, we greatly appreciate your support and recognize the extra effort you’ll need to make to visit us while they complete these infrastructure projects.

And don’t forget you can visit us at mojomala.com to place online orders should stopping by our physical location prove too troublesome.

New cool stuff spotlight …

Mojomala now carries custom screen-printed t-shirts by local artist Will Thomas! His funky designs combine pop-art and pop-culture for a one-of-a-kind cool look. Check out his shirts the next time you’re in the shop and follow Will on Instagram at @willthomas7133.

And if you are an artist or maker like Will, and have a product you think would be a good fit for Mojomala, let us know!
